Cormorants - not talking !

Cormorants – not talking !

Excellent day today at Ogston Reservoir, I’ve been meaning to visit this sight since late in the last century !

I started by stumbling about try to work out how to bird the area and I took a wrong turn somewhere, but having got on course I walked straight into a “twitch” quite a few birders looking out at what turned out to be a Lesser Scaup – its on my list !

A pair of Oystercatcher’s were busy creating the next generation and a Red Kite was soaring on a high ridge to the west of the reservoir.

A lone Lapwing was doing aerobatics over a field, I don’t think he was really alone and a pair of Goosander flew over to round off a most rewarding day.

Lesser Scaup,  8 Pochard + plus. Aythya hybrid-Pochard X Tufted Duck. 2 Teal, 4 Gadwall, 2 Goosander [m./f. over] 8 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Little Grebe, Grey Heron, 2 Oystercatcher [mating] 1 Lapwing, Red Kite, Buzzard, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Mistle Thrush, Nuthatch, 5 Siskin.
