The Scaup was on the canal again today about one hundred and fifty yards from my back gate, I could almost include it in the “Lodge Feeders” reports!

Lodge Feeders: 3 Bullfinch, 16 Goldfinch. Bennerley: Drake Scaup [Stensons Lock, Cotmanhay] 180 Black-headed Gull. 140 Wigeon, 52 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 1 Jack Snipe, 112 Golden Plover, 95 Lapwing, 2 Grey Heron, 44 Redwing, 9 Fieldfare. Chat Corner: 11 Snipe, 2 Stonechat [m. f.] 18 Fieldfare, Kestrel, Pheasant.

Not a bad day today, a bit of a late start but still a decent “bag” which included, Stonechat, Snipe, Lapwing and a few Golden Plover which is always nice to see at Bennerley.

Bennerley. 120 Black-headed Gull, 2 Common Gull, 105 Wigeon, 42 Teal, 10 Shoveler, 96 Lapwing, 12 Golden Plover, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Meadow Pipit, 2 Bullfinch, 2 Mistle Thrush. Chat Corner. 1 Stonechat [m.] 22 Meadow Pipit, 18 Fieldfare, 15 Redwing, Grey Heron, 6 Snipe, 6 Pheasant.

Not the hundreds or possibly thousands of yesteryear, but half a dozen Golden Plover is still a nice sight, add a couple of flocks of Redwing and a pair of Red Admiral and it makes for a good couple of hours spent at Bennerley.

Bennerley Marsh. 6 Golden Plover, 16 Lapwing, 1 Snipe, 36 Wigeon, 2 Grey Heron, 26 Redwing, 3 Meadow pipit. Chat Corner. 50 Redwing, 5 Meadow Pipit, Buzzard. Plus: 2 Red Admiral butterflies.

First Chiffchaff at Bennerley today, seen and heard around the water treatment works, a little late this year but better late than never.

Still around, fifty Wigeon and a similar count of Golden Plover plus a lot of noisy Jackdaws that live and breed in the viaduct.

Nice to see a few Golden Plover at Bennerley today, not in the numbers of years past, but nice all the same. A few Lapwing are taking up territories, about half a dozen at the moment but it remains to be seen how many stay to complete the process.

Had a great day at a chilly blacktoft, even spending over a hour stuck in traffic at junction 31 on the way back couldn’t spoil it. A couple of new birds for me with Golden Plover and Marsh Harrier(5 birds in the air at one point).

Also seen were, redwing, fieldfare, robin, magpie, tree sparrow, pheasant, moorhen, wood pigeon, great tit, blackbird, teal, snipe, wigeon, carrion crow, cormorant, lapwing, greylag goose, little grebe, kestrel, mute swan, gadwall, blue tit, starling, reed bunting, grey heron, long tailed tit, wren, shoveler, mallard, goldfinch, chaffinch, shelduck, sparrowhawk, barn owl, also 1 late flying peacock butterfly and heard a cettis warbler calling on site.
