Bunny Woods was a good site for White Letter Hairstreak and most probabllly still is, I haven't been since i moved to the valley, but on a good day they are out of the trees and on the brambles giving excellnt photops, well worth a visit and always lots of butterfliy species. Dave.

As soon as time allows I'd like to write a series of articles covering the local area, and wider, giving tips on where to look for different species (where to park, where to look, when's best, that kind of thing). e.g. Cromford for Hawfinch, Erewash Meadows for Water Rail, Bennerley Works for Dingy Skipper, Bee Orchid at Nottingham Canal, Bennerley Bush Crickets, etc.

Obviously there will be some limitations, e.g. breeding birds, but I think there's enough for a good series of articles.

Any ideas on what you'd like to see written about, or any contributions you can make? Rare or not I'm happy to write about it, so don't be ashamed to ask for anything – we're all here to learn.

I'll start with things I'd like to see this year and I need to research these to find where locally is best:

White-letter Hairstreak – I hear Bunny woods may be good. There used to be a small colony in the valley nr Bennerley  but I believe they've gone when the elm died.

Wood Lark – Budby Common?

Glow Worm – Sherwood Forest

Nightjar – Budby again?

White Admiral – Eaton Wood, Retford? http://www.eakringbirds.com/ea…..dmiral.htm

Marbled White – Portland Park, between Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Annesley? http://www.eakringbirds.com/bu…..dwhite.htm

Must be lots more….
