By the way, will you be over at the open hide at Mapperley next Sunday. It would be good to meet up.

Paul, the young rabbit was ID'd by someone on another site, at the time I thought the stoat was moving it's own young from one den to another. Up to now I am hoping to be there next Sunday so would be nice to meet up with you and others off of here.

Hi Chris, I took the stoat pics last May at Snettisham Reserve. I had been there for a few hours and went back to the car, put the camera in the boot and then got in to drive off. I looked along the sea bank and saw this stoat coming towards me with the rabbit, so decided to hang around a bit longer. The stoat went back up the sea bank so I went and grabbed the camera waited and it came back with another, then watched it fetch 4 BH Gull eggs.

Those Stoat shots in the gallery are just awesome Don, I'm very jealous of the views you must have had. Where were they taken?

"I can assure you I didn't get down on the ground to take these as it would have taken me a week to get back up."

I know the feeling Don. I've knackered knees and shoulders taking photos and lugging kit milesLaugh. Privileged views indeed and as I said wonderful shots, as are the others in the talk photography gallery. You've inspired me to open an account on there. look out for some dodgy shots under the pseudonym shawster.

Thanks Chris and Paul for the comments. Paul, the rail pics were taken from the members hide at Ogston in Jan and Feb last year. The bird had been around for a couple of months or so and as the weather had got worse and the small ponds had frozen the bird came to the feeder area to get food, so it came to within a couple of yards away from the hide. I can assure you I didn't get down on the ground to take these as it would have taken me a week to get back up.Wink

Hi Don. More excellent shots. Thanks for posting them, they are brilliant. Where were the photos taken if you don't mind me asking? I assume they are from a hide of some description unless you were lying in the mudLaugh

I was using a 300mm and converters up 'til recently but found I was struggling for reach anywhere other than hides so I've gone up to a 500mm and supplemented it with a 70-200 F2.8. I can use this with my converters to get up to 340mm or there abouts. The 500mm is much better for coastal birds. With a 1.7x converter and the 1.5 crop factor on my camera I've got around 1200mm. I spend a fair amount of my working week in Norfolk so like to get out on the salt marshes in an evening. It's not so easy to get as close to some of the birds out there.

The results you're getting are excellent Don and I'm looking forward to the Water rail shots. They sound very interesting.

I'm using a Canon 7D and Sigma 300mm f2.8 lens with 2x or 1.4x convertors.

Just posted another two images this time of the water rail taken about a year ago, first time I saw one off the ground.

Very impressive photography Don. The quality is first class. I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing some more of your shots.

By the way, what camera/lens' do you use?

Hi Paul.

Thanks for your remarks about the Grebe shots. If they're the pics of the GC Grebes dancing they will be the ones  I took yesterday at Mapperley. I called in today to see if they were performing again but this time they were dancing behind some trees so didn't get any clear shots.

Chris will pop them in the gallery Don. I'm sure he'll let you know if there are any problems.

I'm a keen photographer myself so I look forward to seeing your shots.
