Not brilliant Chris. I've fleetingly glimpsed Kingfisher by the little brook that runs through the valley. Woodpeckers can be seen in and around the plantations and I've seen Stonechat near Old Johns tower. Having said this there is a fair sized reservoir at the Cropston end of the park. It's possible there could be some winter passage visitors on here. It's definitely the place to see Deer rutting though. The ancient woodlands and fern covered meadows give a more "highland" feel than the likes of Wollaton Park
I was at Carsington water today and it turns out there was an Osprey there yesterday. Didn't see it today so again, probably on passage back to Africa.

Like the new deer photos Paul – how is Bradgate Park for birding?

Love the photos – I've authorised them now. The barn owl is awesome – well done, the avocet is even better – you obviously have quite a talent, better than anything I've managed.
Glad you like the shots Chris. I got the shots of the Barn Owl whilst watching Otters over in Norfolk. Not got any shots of these yet, slippery little buggers!! The Avocet was taken early one morning over at the Cley Reserve. Great spot for these birds and really easy to shoot as they come close to the hide. Not sure if it's talent or luck but I'll take the former if that's OK. I do actually teach wildlife photography so if you want any tips just drop me a line.
I'm doing a wildlife photography day for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust on Sunday (3rd) over at Carsington water. Check out events on their website.
Cheers
Paul

Thanks for the added info Chris. It's a lens in the avatar, Nikon 300mm. My spotting scopes only an Opticron GS 815.
I'll pop some shots in the gallery. Hope you like them.

Thanks Paul. It's great you found us and pleased you like the site. You even managed to get an avatar up, I'm impressed – not many have managed that! Looks a serious scope (or is it a lens) you have there.
In terms of helping then we welcome any sightings/pictures from along the valley, or further afield in Notts/Derbys, as well as trip reports from vacations, etc. It should be easy to submit sightings via the sightings page, and pictures via the gallery page, and I can set you up a login to contribute directly if you submit lots.
We also have a flickr group and a facebook page.
Any questions just let us know. Thanks for posting.

Came across the site a few days ago and really impressed with it. It's good to see so much info on the wildlife around our little bit of the planet. If I can contribute anything to help out I'll only be too happy to do so.
Cheers
