Hi Chris, dont think anything is happening at shipley marsh its such a shame when i was a lad i can remember standing on the disused railway banking and seeing waders galore and the field to the left was full with lapwings nesting no more than three feet apart. I know the coalboard own the land as they do most of the land right to Ilkeston most of it has been opencasted in the seventies.

Hi Neil,

Firstly welcome to the forum and site. I'm not sure of any groups particularly active in that particular area, you could try asking the River Erewash Foundation (http://www.rivererewashfoundation.co.uk/) but I've been unable to contact them when I've tried. I must admit I didn't think they were active anymore but I know they are having an event at Toton to pull some Balsam in June, so they must be. Whether they have other events planned further up the river I'm not sure.

With regard any work being done up at the Shipley Marsh then I've not heard of anything, is there activity there? I think the land is owned by UK Coal.

I'm sure someone else may know more than me so they may be able to help.

Cheers,

Chris
