Not the first place you'd think to look for these birds. Just shows how nature can throw up many surprises.

Whilst on my way home from work today I found a small colony of nesting sand martins in our area which took me completely by surprise as it wasn't what I would call a typical nesting site for sand martins.

Incidently also saw a hobby in giltbrook a couple of weeks ago

Three House Martins have been over my back garden for most of the afternoon.

Well they have returned and seem to have settled over the sewage beds, been there for the last hour at least. A more accurate count was 22 Sand Martins and 1 House Martin.

There were around 40 hirundines over the water treatment plant at 1pm today. They were fairly high and moving along the valley rather than feeding over the beds, unfortunately I was at home and even through the telescope I couldn't specifically identify them, although logic says they would most likely be Sand Martins. I did walk over after seeing them, in hope that they may have decended to the sewage beds, but no luck.
