Not A Clue !

I think the flower on the right may be a garden escape, but it was the only thing I could find to photograph !

Redshank at Bennerley was nice, as were Skylarks up and singing at Chat Corner.

Over at Woodside Swallows were showing well and Chiffchaff were singing in spite of the inclement weather.

Saturday Night At The Newt Pond

April 7, 2012 in Read Posts, Sightings, The Bennerley Birders Pages by DaveJ

Saturday early afternoon actually, but I have been meaning to have a closer look at this little site for some time. At the moment it is a prime piece of wetland with ducks, geese and herons but no waders, although I have seen Lapwing and Golden Plover here. I think as spring and summer progress it will become more interesting with insects and wildflowers and well worth keeping an eye on.

Headed of for a circular walk taking in Cossall, Old Moor Wood and Spring Wood, Buzzards, Skylarks, Meadow Pipit and a single Yellow Hammer, plus, seven Roe Deer heading down the lane to the pub !

Milliship Way Newt Ponds. 2 Canada Goose, 7 Teal, Grey Heron, 45 Black-headed Gull, 2 Pied Wagtail. Cossall. 4 Pheasant, Kestrel, 3 Skylark, Yellow Hammer, Song Thrush, Chiffchaff. Old Moor Wood. 2 Pheasant, 2 Buzzard, Kestrel, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, 3 Meadow Pipit, 5 Goldfinch. Spring Wood. 2 Pheasant, Buzzard, 5 Skylark. Plus. 7 Fallow Deer. Bennerley Marsh. 2 Greylag Goose, 4 Canada Goose, 4 Lapwing, 60 Black-headed Gull, 35 Jackdaw, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Pied Wagtail, Bullfinch.

The Ubiquitous Green Woodpecker

April 1, 2012 in Latest Patch Sightings, Read Posts, Sightings, The Bennerley Birders Pages by DaveJ

Speckled Wood

Something of a raptor fest at Bennerley today, with Peregrine being the star of the show ! ably supported by Buzzards, Lapwing and Golden Plover.

Chat Corner sadly not delivering “chats” at the moment but making up for it with Buzzards, Lapwings and a few butterflies.

A fine pair of Kestrels entertained at the North Marsh, then lunch in Bentleys Plantation in the company of more Buzzards and a Nuthatch, noisy but nice !

A quick “recce” of Woodside produced Swallows, Meadow Pipits and an irate Jay, oh yes’ and of course the “Ubiquitous Green Woodpecker”
