Frogs On The March!

February 28, 2012 in Latest Patch Sightings by PaulS

Just back from a bike ride around Shipley and Woodside. Saw lots of Frogs on the trail. First I’ve seen this year. The mild weather must have stirred them. Also, and no exaggeration, hundreds of moths out tonight. Not just the small ones either. I saw several that had wingspans at least 3cms across. Heard 7 individual Tawney Owls (unless one was following me!!) calling. Caught some eye shine in the field to the left of Mapperley hide. Reckon it was a fox. Hundreds of Corvids roosting in Mapperley Wood. They certainly make a racket when you disturb them. All round great night really!

Kirk Hallam Lake

February 26, 2012 in Featured by PaulS

A trip to Loughborough this morning and a bit of car washing to follow meant only a brief trip out this afternoon. What a glorious day it was though and spring feels like its definitely in the air. Whether it lasts who knows?? Had time for a bit of wildlife watching down at Kirk Hallam Pond. Here’s what we saw.

200+ Black Headed Gull. 1 Common Gull. 4 Coot. 2 Mallard. 2 Mute Swan. 12 Canada Geese. 3 shovelar (2m,1f). 20+ Mallard. Crow. Wood Pigeon. Starling. House Sparrow. Collared Dove. Grey Wagtail. Greenfinch. Great Tit. Blue Tit. Chaffinch.

And some snaps from the session.

Cheers.

Paul
