Waxwings In Kirk Hallam.
January 2, 2012 in Featured, Latest Patch Sightings by PaulS
Thought I’d give these guys an outing of their own. They’re such beautiful birds and we’re blessed to have them in our part of the world. Hopefully they’ll be around for a while but they are being chased a bit by the resident Mistle Thrushes.
If you’re not sure where they are head to Kirk Hallam Lake. Then with the lake on your right drive along the main road and take the first left after the lake. This is Lime Tree rise. At the junction with Oliver Road they have been feeding in the Rowan tree on the right and perching in the Birch around it. I do hope you get to see these amazing birds.

Another fine set of images Paul. The weather we had today really brought out the best in these birds.
Thanks Don. Sorry you missed the birds but I’m sure they’ll be back. Very difficult to photograph as they were feeding in the centre of the tree. Better images to come once they start on the outer berries (I hope).
Still there today according to reports.
Went down this afternoon and there were six of them. Quite a few people turned up to view them, managed to get a few shots of them high in the tall trees in nice sunshine but then everything turned dark so had to retreat.
Allison saw six at around 11am today still in the same place. Hopefully some more will turn up.
Had another trip down today for a couple of hours from about 12 till 2. Six were reported earlier on but all the time I spent there we only saw five, looks as though one has gone missing. They were also moving around quite a lot, mainly spending their time in the tall trees at the side of the lake and making fleeting trips to a rowan tree opposite the lake and to the top of Limetree Rise but not stopping there.
