Dave – keep the full counts going at Shipley Lake! I’m in touch with RSPB, BTO (WEBS) and DWT – the wildfowl counts at Shipley Lake make it very important in the local context.

I guess these records could be used if development of the lake is proposed. Seems to have gone quite on this front at the minute.
That’s exactly it Paul, I,m counting and Jim’s knocking on doors. Woodside is always good for a few Siskin and lesser ‘polls and I wouldn’t rule out the odd Brambling.
DCC has asked Development Company Waystones to come up with a plan for the Theme Park and Lake – this was originally due by March. I’m in touch with various conservation bodies re. the importance of the lake for winter wildfowl and also the relevant Amber Valley and Derbyshire County Councillors.
Dave’s counts are important to support the case with real data.

Came across this article dated 2009

Says way back then DWT were going to buy some land on the perimeter of the lake and DCC had bidders with plans to develop the rest. Anyone know what happened with all this? And did DWT’s interest in the site go back this far. I was under the impression it was a fairly quickly done deal.
With the recent history of Shipley Lake being recreational how far back in time would the council go in considering the site as a wildlife haven?
I’m off to Spec Savers and am going to sue the opticians in Alletree:-)
