Narrow Bordered Five Spot Burnet (Zygaena lonicerae).

August 10, 2011 in Biopedia, Moths by PaulS

Very similar in appearance to the six spot burnet but only five red spots on the wings.

It occupies grassland and the larval foodplants are such low plants as clover (Trifolium) and vetch (Lathyrus).

The adults fly in the daytime, visiting various flowers, and are on the wing in June and July.

Look out for their tissue paper like cigar shaped cocoons attached to various plants in grassy areas. A real hotspot for these is around rough ground to the north of Bennerley viaduct.
