Rolling In The Snow

November 30, 2010 in Sightings, The Bennerley Birders Pages by Bennerley

Not me you understand, Dougie’s the one who likes rolling in the snow, loves it in fact ! Tuesday is pension day and shopping day but I usually get some kind of birding in and in fact today I was again searching the car parks of Ilkeston and Ebenezer Street for Waxwing and again not a one. In what appears to be a Waxwing irruption year, you’d think there would be a couple hanging around Ilkeston, still a decent sized skein of Pink-Footed Geese made up for the lack of Waxwings. These Geese were probably the same birds that were seen at Belper not long after my sighting and possibly crossed the English Channel earlier this morning, they came from the east and headed north west [ish] and could have ended up at Carsington, who knows ?

Cotmanhay. Lesser Redpoll, Coal Tit, 2 Mistle Thrush, 3 Redwing. Bennerley Marsh. 90 Black-headed Gull, 70 Wigeon, 60 Lapwing. 20 Golden Plover, 2 Common Snipe, 4 Redwing, 2 Mistle Thrush, , 4 Jay. Chat Corner. Common Snipe, 2 Redwing. Botany bay. 6 Redwing, Bullfinch.
